Manchested united, life after Ronaldo.

He finally left. He did it. It was long said in the press he would move to Madrid, apparently because of his mum. It then died down. Then, it was said that he registered the "CR9". Then that too died down. Then, TA-DA! United accept a 80 million fee for him. So it's finally happened eh. There's no argument about whether he's worth that much. The Madrid shop was sold out after he was shown off to 80 thousand fans. They'll recoup alot of money from merchandise. And Ronaldo, whether you hate him, or love him, WILL score goals, and that is why he cost so much. United signed Valencia to replace Ronaldo. Is he the right man? Well, he won't score as many goals as Ronaldo, stats prove that, without a doubt. But in Valencia, United have a winger, and a winger who will actually stay on the wing instead of cutting in and becoming a striker. He's good, and he's proved that at Wigan. But no, he is not as Ronaldo. So to score goals, who do they turn to? Free striker, Owen. Put the ball to Owen's feet, and he will score. He never scored at Newcastle because the service he got, was pretty much crap. At united, he'll get much better service and hopefully, will score goals. United are good. No, in fact, they're great. But they're not as good as Barcelona, as proved in the Champions League final. Without Ronaldo, they are weaker. They've lost the man, who can make something out of nothing. Someone, when in the right mood, will wreak havok in any defence. But they've also got rid of the one man who could destroy the atmosphere in the dressing room, as he showed his templementral side towards the end of the season when he was subbed off. A grown man acting like a kid. Sir Alex realised that, and sold him, and rightfully so. I hope United spend the money on players instead of repaying debts. But I guess football is a business after all.

Real Madrid ; New signings, now what?

Okay, so we all know of Madrid's new signings. If you don't, you live in a cave(I don't know how you're reading this then). As usual, Madrid's huge signings are attacking players. Albiol isn't a huge signing because of the money paid for him. Don't get me wrong, he could turn out to play better than Ronaldo and Kaka, but he just doesn't fit in the Big Signings Group.

Most peple know that the best defence is the best offence. Greece are the perfect example. However, aparently, Madrid don't know that. Time and time again, they've signed huge attackign players, Zidane, Huntelaar, Robben, Van der Vart and most recently Kaka, Ronaldo and Benzema, a few to quote. Where does that leave their defence? In shambles. Marcelo, Pepe, Albiol and Ramos. That doesn't make me afraid. Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema and Raul does, but that's not the point. The whole point is to score, and not concede. Madrid should count themselves very luck they have Casillas between the posts. Imagine if they only had Dudek. Yeap, that wouldn't go down very well.

Who to sign then, is the question. Off my head, I can think of a few great defenders. But defenders don't move around alot. Terry, although it's said in the press that he wants to move to City, it is highly unlikesly to leave Stamford Bridge. Vidic and Ferdinand, again, most probably won't move. Then there's Carragher. But he's shit, so he won't be a target. Now before you Liverpool fans start crying, admit it, he is shit. That doesn't mean he's not a smart player. He is. He keeps it simple, doesn't go bombing up the pitch and doesn't get sucked in. For only two reasons, he himself(yes, that's right)knows he is shit and is slow. Now picture this with me for a minute. Carragher flying up the field for a counter attach, he loses the ball and now has to run back. By the time he gets back, Liverpool, chances are, would have conceded. I mean, come on, he's so slow that if he went any slower, he'd be going backwords.

Maybe, for once, Madrid should sign young talented players now, instead of paying about 10 times their current price in the future. But then again, that's the Madrid way. Sakho, Santon and Fazio. Three defenders with very bright futures ahead of them. Why not sign them now? They already have a s star for the future in Marcelo. They should add on to that. And no, you cannot say their clubs won't be willing to let their future stars go, because if you can sign Ronaldo and Kaka, then you can sign anyone. Yes, anyone. It is unclear what Madrid will do with the rest of the transfer market, so Madrid fans, hope for the best. For now, we wait and watch the season unfold. You can quote me on this, if Madrid don't sign atleast another significant defender, they will win nothing of importance next season.

Manchester City, Tops or Flops?

You wake up one morning, to find out the club you've supported all your life(no, not you people who jumped on the bandwagon) is now the richest in the world. By a long shot. You can't believe your eyes, whether you read it in the papers or on the net or from a friend on the phone(in that case, your ears). Your cell's ringing off the hook, fellow supporters going "I can't believe our luck, global domination here we come!" or friends who support some other team(it doesn't matter whcih, you're now the richest in the world, you don't care) going " you lucky arse, you're still shit and always will be". You don't care, because you're now rich, they're not.

Money was splashed out Robinho for a new British record. He nearly signed for Chelsea, but they weren't willing to match City's bid and City were offering more wages. Which will of course, spark the debate of whether money is spoiling football. Well, footballers are paid to entertain, and they're paid so much, because they do what they do best. People still pay to watch, whether it's going for Match day, or staying home to watch it on telly, they're paying. Prices keep going up, but they keep paying, because they love football and they want to be entertained by people who can do what they can't. Since more people are watching everyday, sponsors start shelling out more, because more people are seeing their name. The debate is endless, so we'll leave that for another day.

As of now, City are flops, without a doubt, and city fans, if you can't admit that, then you're dillusional. With the amount pumped in for Robinho, De Jonh and Bellamy, you would expect more. No, scratch that, you MUST expect more. But they aren't wetting their pants yet, they have a long way to go. Recent signing Barry isn't the man fans expected, but it's a start. Tevez, probably will end up at City, and if he does, then that will be a major boost for City. Santa Cruz, is probably a good signing, but that remains to be seen.

So for now, we wait, and see what happens to Project Global Domination.

Benzema; In it for the fame and money, or medals?

Recent news has it that new Real Madrid signing Karim Benzema chose Real Madrid over Manchester United, Inter Milan and Barcelona. One must ask, why? What did Real Madrid win? Nothing, compared to what the three above clubs won. Manchester United won the Premier League, Inter Milan, the Scudetto and last, but definetly not the least, Barcelona who won the Spanish La Liga and the Champions league. Well aparently, he has dreamed of playing for Real Madrid since he 15,but then again, who hasn't? Ronaldo said the same thing, that doesn't mean they should be trusted.

Money, probably was the motivator. Don't get me wrong, it's
not the only motivator, but it's sure as hell a big one. Real Madrid, after throwing money out for Kaka, Ronaldo and Albiol(I thought he deserved a mention eventhough what they payed for him was nothing compared to the former two), by far have the most amount of money to throw weekly to their players. In today's world, what counts most is money. Loyalty comes second now. Players want their flashy cars, lavish lifestyle, fancy parties and big houses. The more they earn the more they can buy. Uk's soon-to-be increase in income tax was probably a turn off for Benzema. He's sitting there thinking "Nah, I'll play for Madrid instead of giving the British government 50% of my money"

The other only probable motivator, would have been that Real Madrid are a global brand. They are known everywhere, even if they don't win anything, they have a name that is unbeatable. And who wouldn't want to line up with a team that has stars like Kaka, Ronaldo, Ramos, Casilas and many more. Yes, it isn't proven that they will play well together, but Benzema won't care. Of course, Manchester United and Barcelona have good teams. But they don't have a fan base as big as Madrid's, nor do they have as many stars. And if I was given the choice, to spend one day with Only Kaka, Ronaldo, Ramos and Casilas or both the Manchester United team and Barcelona's team, I'd pick the first option. Many would agree with me, I'm sure.
